Local Author Celebrates Earth Day With Whelan Students

Last week, local children’s author and founder of IDORI, Noah Sorin, spent the day at the A.C. Whelan School reading to students and teaching them about the environment and sustainability.

Sorin’s IDORI, which stands for "I Dream of Real Impact," is dedicated to making early childhood resources that teach children about sustainability. On February 4th, Sorin launched the Kickstarter for his book, Benjy the Treehopper, and within 48 hours, the project achieved full funding. During the reading event at the Whelan in celebration of Earth Day, Sorin introduced students to the magic of trees and the importance of conservation with Benjy the Treehopper.

This beautifully illustrated hardcover book follows Benjy, a curious treehopper from the planet Idori, as he learns about deforestation and the critical role forests play in our world. Through enchanting storytelling and vibrant artwork, Whelan students joined Benjy on his journey to protect his forest home, discovering why trees are essential and how small actions can make a big difference.

“I am a social entrepreneur, children’s book author, and passionate environmentalist dedicated to transforming early childhood education through engaging and impactful environmental learning,” said Sorin. “My work focuses on fostering sustainable habits in young children and empowering the next generation to care for our planet.”

Sorin said IDORI’s goal is to give parents and educators the tools to nurture environmental responsibility in children from an early age.

“I believe sustainability is one of the most critical challenges we face today,” he said. “Innovation and education are powerful solutions to this global issue. IDORI is the first step in my broader mission to create a more sustainable future. I am also deeply interested in advancing zero-waste systems, developing biodegradable materials, and expanding the use of renewable energy.”
