A Statement on the Latest FBI Bulletin

Dear Caregivers,

An FBI bulletin warning of suspicious activity at several schools in Massachusetts details three specific incidents in which men with similar profiles had been intercepted, either attempting to get into schools or, in one case, gaining access to a school building.

According to the bulletin, which can be read here, between October 18, 2023 and November 28, 2023, there were at least three to four instances where unidentified males either entered or attempted to enter schools in Massachusetts without any legitimate purpose.

These incidents have occurred in Needham, Dedham, Woburn and most recently in Lowell, where three unauthorized individuals were denied entry at the two schools by school staff members.

The FBI is asking all Massachusetts schools to be vigilant, ensure proper security measures are in place and contact the local police department or the FBI if there is any indication of suspicious activity similar to the incidents described above.

Revere Public Schools take reports like this very seriously and stress that all buildings in the district are locked, and visitors must be buzzed in by staff through a doorbell that is equipped with video surveillance.

Our staff is on alert, and they are carefully vetting all guests at any of our schools before allowing entry.

We have reminded all staff that unexpected guests to RPS schools should not be granted admittance. Also, staff has been directed to not admit anyone they do not know, regardless of the reason they give for visiting the school.

If you do plan to visit your child’s school, please be sure to call the school before attempting to be admitted so the faculty can facilitate your visit.

Dianne K. Kelly, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
